The Craft4Crafters stand at the Bath and West showground, near Shepton Mallet, held on 17-19 October 2019, was manned by the Dorset members of WCE.
Our competition this time was ‘Inspired by Art and Artists’ and we had on display 45 embroideries in 8” rings. Visitors to the stand voted for the entry they liked the best. C4C give cash prizes for the first 3 winners.
1st prize no 23 Gill Fawkes , Purbeck whose design was Wimborne Square in the style of J S Lowry and wins the C4C shield.
2nd prize no 6 Sylvia Fellowes, Poole, whose design was inspired by Claude Monet and his painting of a Poppy Field in a hollow near Giverny.
3rd Prize no no 27 Annette Williams, whose design was a Bullfinch inspired by George Benningfield
Close 4th by one vote was no 22 Bobbie Church, Poole, who was inspired by Arthur Hughes and Ophelia
Stephen Mobsby also allowed us to sell his books, with a donation to WCE. Members put on a disply of work, together with the name of the tutor who had inspired them.
We had demonstrations together with sit and natter sessions, and visitors could come and stitch or just talk and watch.
We had our usual number of visitors through he stand – around the 15000 mark.
Thanks to Sherborne for setting up and Purbeck for stewarding.
Next year’s competition is going to be different in October 2020 – we are having 3-D items to fit into a max size of 8x8x10”
